Nursing Units


Emergency Department

Unit Description

The Emergency Department (ED) is a 21 bed, energetic and fast passed community emergency department providing assessment and treatment for infants to adults. The monthly volume exceeds 2,500 vists. The RN staff has the support of Advanced EMT’s and desk secretaries.



Medical/Surgical Units

Unit Description

MSW (Surgical Unit) is an active and challenging 49-bed medical/surgical unit that serves patients age 14 and older. There are 24 surgical beds and 25 medical/surgical beds. The goal of this department is to create and support a multi-disciplinary approach to the provision of holistic treatment, in an environment conducive to the maintenance, restoration, and/or improvement of our patients’ health and well-being. The most frequent diagnosis of the medical zone includes: pneumonia, CHF, and COPD. The surgical zone is represented by a variety of specialist including orthopedics, general surgery and urology, with the most common diagnosis being Total Joint Replacement, Cholecystectomy, and hip fracture repair. In addition, this unit accommodates Hospice patients, working closely with those agencies, supporting "end of life" physical and emotional treatment.



Intensive Care Unit

Unit Description

The Intensive Care Unit is a 16 private bed, medical-surgical combined ICU/SCU. This is a fast-paced unit that is committed to providing a sound multidisciplinary approach to patient care that is based on best practices.



Intermediate Medical Care Unit

Unit Description

The Intermediate Medical Care Unit is a 25-bed telemetry mixed medical surgical step down unit. It is a fast paced unit providing comprehensive care to the adult population. The types of patients seen are 23-hour chest pain R/O MI, CHF requiring vasoactive drips, arrhythmia management, or post thoracotomy or endarterectomy.



Pain Management Clinic

Unit Description

The Pain Management Clinic is committed to working with the patient and their primary care physician to achieve as much pain relief as possible, allowing them to function as normally as possible. Nerve Blocks, Cryoprobe and Radio frequency lesioning are the main procedures performed at the clinic. The clinic is staffed with anesthesiologists, a nurse practitioner, a psychologist, RNs and Medical Assistants.



Rehab Unit

Unit Description

The Rehab Unit is a 35-bed unit that offers an interdisciplinary approach to promoting a change in the accountability for self-care from the healthcare professional transitioning to the client. The ultimate goal is to assist persons with disability and chronic illness in attaining maximum functional ability, maintaining optimal health, and adapting to an altered lifestyle. The most frequent diagnosis that make up our patient population includes: stroke, amputations, neurological disorders (MS, Parkinson’s), head injuries, and orthopedics. The unit promotes the “team” approach and allows for the nurse to be an active member amongst the best therapist, physicians and other supportive staff members. This unit offers a view into a patient’s continuum of care with surprisingly uplifting accomplishments.



Behavioral Health Unit

Unit Description

Behavioral Health Unit is a 64-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit serving the needs of patients diagnosed with all mental health illnesses. The staff is experienced in dealing with all types of illnesses and behaviors. Licensed Social Workers, OT/RT and therapists are available to meet their needs and offer therapeutic groups and social groups on a daily basis. The staff combined with 12 psychiatrists fosters a team approach. Partial hospitalization is available for clients needing continued therapy as an outpatient. The partial program provides daily groups, socialization and RT/OT. There is also a six-bed crisis holding area for patients who are medically cleared from ER and awaiting placement for a mental health facility.



Sub Acute Care

Unit Description

The Bone & Joint Institute Skilled Rehabilitation Center (SRC), located within Oakwood Heritage Hospital, is designed to provide physicians and their orthopedic patients undergoing elective total knee and hip replacements with state-of-the-art, hospitality-driven rehabilitation/restorative care. Patients are encouraged to do as much as they can on their own, while having the nursing and therapy staff available to assist and instruct as needed. Patients are encouraged to perform their daily activities, thus helping them to be better prepared for their discharge. The patient’s family is invited, and encouraged to participate in the rehabilitation program with the patient to further contribute to a successful transition home. The patient and family is part of a team that includes physicians, nursing professionals, occupational therapists, physical therapists, recreational therapists, social workers, and other medical professionals. Attentive specialized nursing care is provided 24 hours per day, to monitor any medical condition, provide pain and incision management, provide education needed, and assist the patient in preparation for discharge.
